In the model:

validates_inclusion_of :whatever, :in => [true, false], :message =>
I18n.t('activerecord.errors.models.my_model.attributes.whatever.please_select_whatever')

In config/locales/en.yml:

en:
activerecord:
errors:
models:
my_model:
attributes:
whatever:
please_select_whatever: "Please select whatever."
